Announcing the 2012 New York Photo Festival…

…and a New Initiative, the New York Photo Festival Invitational

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The New York Photo Festival, established in 2008, is pleased to announce the dates and theme of this year’s edition. NYPH’12 will take place on May 16-20, and will be headquartered again in Dumbo, on the Brooklyn waterfront. The theme for NYPH’12 will be the art/doc matrix: where do fine art and documentary photography meet?

Five spotlight curators will highlight their interests and specialties along this axis, while tagging where their exhibited works and artists fall on a vertical axis of new technologies to old processes. Curatorial details and additional programming plans will be released shortly, so please watch our Twitter feed, Facebook page, and LinkedIn group for dates, times and previews.

NYPH’12 is also pleased to announce a major new initiative this year: the New York Photo Festival Invitational. For the first time ever, submissions to the NYPH’12 Invitational will be reviewed and selected by the festival curators, each chairing a small jury of industry professionals specializing in each submission category. Selected submissions will be exhibited as part of the New York Photo Festival, from May 16-20, 2012. Top category submissions will be awarded prizes from the curator’s voting and from the voting public.

The New York Photo Festival Invitational will provide a unique platform for artists and photographers to be exhibited in a festival of contemporary photography with an international reach, and be considered for curators’ or viewers’ choice. Multimedia projects will now be considered in their own new category.

Photographs and multimedia pieces may be submitted online at www.nyph.at/invitational.

The New York Photo Festival will be expanding into other physical and virtual spaces around the globe this year and next; you can find our new announcements at www.nyph.at.
